Xport is a pulse weather radar, equipped with dual polarization and a coherent reception, and operating at X-Band (detailed characteristics). This radar was designed for hydro-meteorological applications, such as rainfall estimation over specific water sheds and the analysis of rainy events. The radar was developped by a team from the Institut de Recherche pour le Développement (IRD), at the Laboratoire d'étude des Transferts en Hydrologie and Environnement (LTHE). The project started as part of the AMMA program and the radar is now operating in Africa, monitoring the precipitations over the Donga Basin in Benin.
